Want to live better, leaner, longer? It’s all about diet and exercise, the experts say. And a big part of diet is — wait for it — food!
What you eat, and when you eat it, underscores a total wellness package. All the exercise in the world won’t make up for a lousy dietary regimen, one that’s marked with quickly inhaled fast food, or tons of processed items. Don’t negate the hour or so you put work in on your physical body by not taking care of it for the other 23 hours of the day. What you fuel your body with, your rest and hydration, all play a major role in the big picture of your success. Keep it simple with nutrition — real food, fresh, from the earth, minimal ingredients and avoid anything heavily processed. If you can’t read the label ingredient and
it’s a mile long, do you really want it in you?
The key is to view your diet as a lifestyle and focus on the nutrition you are feeding your body to perform at optimal levels rather than focusing on what you are avoiding and depriving it of. Steer clear of any fad diets that promise extreme weight loss in short amounts of time by just doing X, Y, & Z…this will ultimately lead to adrenal fatigue and extreme weight rebound. Like any habit, this one takes a while to get set into place, and then requires ongoing monitoring. It can be hard in a busy life to carve out proper nutrition and exercise, which is why a third of us are obese, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. And even if your weight is under control, a bad diet leaves you exposed to major health issues such as heart disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes and even certain types of cancer.
